Reporting & dashboards

SQL Server reporting and Power BI dashboards you can trust

I'm a SQL Server reporting and Power BI consultant in Montreal. I build custom business reports and dashboards on the data you already have, so the numbers are ready when you need them and everyone sees the same ones.

Who this is for

Owners, controllers and operations managers at small and mid-sized companies who need better numbers without hiring a data team.

  • You run an ERP or accounting system with a SQL Server database underneath
  • One person knows how to pull the numbers, and everyone waits for them
  • You pay for Power BI but have few dashboards anyone actually opens
  • The bank, the board or your accountant expects reports every month

Typical reporting problems I fix

Totals that don't match

Sales has one number, accounting has another. Usually it's two queries with different rules. I define each number once, so every report agrees.

Hours of manual preparation

Exports, copy-paste and formula fixes every week. I replace that with reports that refresh on their own.

Standard reports that don't answer your questions

The built-in reports show what the software vendor thought you'd need. I build the custom business reports your team actually asks for.

Slow or broken reports

Queries that time out, reports that break after an update. I tune the SQL and put the logic where it's easy to maintain.

What you get

Custom SQL Server reports

Paginated reports, Excel or PDF. On demand, scheduled, or emailed to the right people every Monday.

Power BI dashboards

Interactive dashboards that refresh automatically. Not on Power BI? I can deliver a hosted web dashboard instead.

A clean reporting layer

Documented SQL views where each business rule is written once. New reports become much faster to build.

Definitions everyone agrees on

A short glossary: what counts as revenue, cost, margin or WIP, and where each number comes from.

Training and handover

Your team learns to use, filter and adjust the reports. You're not dependent on me for every change.

Ongoing support

When your software updates or your questions change, I adjust the reports so they keep working.

How a reporting project works

  1. Review

I look at your current reports and database, and ask which decisions the numbers need to support.

  2. Define

We agree on the definitions and write them down, so there's no debate later about what a number means.

  3. Build

You see a first working report on your real data early. Then we refine it together, one report at a time.

  4. Hand over

Documentation, training for your team, and support when you need changes.

Reporting and dashboards: common questions

Do I need Power BI?

No. Power BI is a good fit if you already use Microsoft 365, but I also build SQL Server Reporting Services reports, Excel reports that refresh on their own, and hosted web dashboards. I'll recommend what fits your setup.

Can you report on my ERP's database?

If it runs on SQL Server, as most construction and field-service ERPs do, yes. I work with read-only access, and against a reporting copy where possible, so your live system isn't affected.

Will the reports keep working after a software update?

I build reports on documented SQL views, so when an update changes a table there is one place to fix, not fifty reports. Support is available when that happens.

Can my team change the reports later?

Yes. You get the source, the documentation and training. Nothing is locked in.

How long does a reporting project take?

It depends on the scope. I aim to put a first useful report in front of you early, and I give you a timeline once we've scoped the work together.
